Cycling Meets Agritourism

BikeAgriTourism is an environmental initiative that combines three main ideas: cycling, agriculture, and tourism. By connecting people, landscapes, and local food traditions, the project creates sustainable bike tourism experiences that celebrate rural life and nature while promoting environmentally responsible tourism.

At its core, BikeAgriTourism develops green paths: carefully designed cycling routes that guide travelers through scenic countrysides, farms, and culturally rich food destinations. These routes provide immersive experiences where visitors can engage with agriculture, taste regional products, and connect with local communities

What is BikeAgriTourism?

The project focuses especially on remote and rural areas, where tourism can play a key role in supporting local economies. By combining bike tourism with agritourism, BikeAgriTourism helps diversify income for farmers, encourages small businesses, and contributes to the long-term sustainability of these regions.

In addition to creating travel experiences, BikeAgriTourism supports education and capacity-building. Through training programs, digital courses, and practical tools, the project equips agritourism operators, vocational education and training (VET) providers, and tourism professionals with the skills needed to design and deliver high-quality, eco-friendly tourism services.

Sustainability is at the heart of the project. By promoting low-impact mobility, reducing dependence on cars, and highlighting local food systems, BikeAgriTourism contributes to climate-conscious travel and fosters a deeper appreciation for nature and cultural heritage.

Patmos is one of the smallest inhabited islands in the Aegean Sea. The island, whose shape refers to a seahorse, consists of three land masses joined by two isthmuses, with the highest point being the Hill of Prophet Elias. As a volcanic island, its outline presents an impressive sequence of headlands, bays, harbors, coves, capes and rocks with strange shapes, while the inland is characterized by a pronounced relief with sharp elevations at both ends, rocky hills, lower levels, valleys and small meadows, often in the mouths of bays.
